ERINHA conference: launching the European Research Infrastructure on Highly Pathogenic Agents’ scientific strategy

A workshop for the scientific community and potential users

The European Research Infrastructure on Highly Pathogenic Agents (ERINHA) will be holding a one-day conference in Brussels on the 10th of May, 2017.

The conference will provide an update on the current status of the development of interventions for highly pathogenic agents and will also introduce the attendees and potential users to the ERINHA infrastructure that will provide open access to state-of-the-art BSL4 and supporting facilities for academia and industry. The conference will also introduce the scientific research strategy that will be implemented by ERINHA to reinforce European coordination and research into highly pathogenic microorganisms.

Expert presentations will provide an overview of the current areas of vaccine and diagnostic development against these highly pathogenic agents. The conference is free to attend and takes place in the Marriott Hotel Grand Place, Brussels.

European Research Infrastructure on Highly Pathogenic Agents (ERINHA) has launched a call for applications to hire its Director General for the Research Infrastructure Central Coordination Unit at the Paris headquarters.

The 5th ERINHA consortium meeting was held in Lisbon, Portugal, hosted by ERINHA partner INSA.


2nd Exchange of Experience Workshop in Malaga, 18th of January 2017

The 2nd Exchange of Experience Workshop organized by ESFRI aims to provide transparent and effective high-level interaction, coordination and networking between ESFRI Research Infrastructures (RIs) and the ESFRI Strategy Working and Implementation Groups. The focus of the open discussion will be on the challenges faced by the RIs during the pre-implementation phase as well as those involved in enforcing the Landmark status. In the framework of the meeting ERINHA will have a separate face-to-face meeting with the Strategy Working and implementation groups of ESFRI to be informed on the procedures of the next assessment.

ESFRI HLEG monitoring successfully completed - May - December 2016

From May to December 2016 ERINHA was closely monitored by the High Level Expert Group (HLEG) provided by ESFRI with the objective to advise ERINHA on its scientific case, timelines and other key deliverables for its implementation phase. The HLEG also provided recommendations to the ESFRI Forum on how to proceed with ERINHA’s next assessment for the ESFRI 2018 Roadmap. The positive recommendations have highlighted the progress ERINHA has made during this period as well as ERINHA’s willingness to move towards implementation from July 2017.


ERINHA’s presentation to IMI infection Control Strategy Group, 9th December 2016, Webinar

In the framework of the Innovative Medicine Initiatives (IMI) Infection Control SGG meeting on the 9th of December, ERINHA presented its concept and research strategy to key stakeholders in the field of preparedness for infectious diseases to IMI, the European Commission (EC), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), as well as other industrial players from  the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) and its vaccine branch - Vaccines Europe.


 ERINHA meeting, Annecy, November 2016

The ERINHA consortium held a meeting on the 22-23rd of November at les Pensières, Annecy, France to finalise the research portfolio, operational aspects of the RI and the legal statutes.

ERINHA consortium meeting

ERINHA held a consortium meeting on the 15th September 2016, hosted by ITM in Antwerp Belgium. The objective of the meeting was to discuss the ERINHA research portfolio. 


ERINHA at EBSA annual meeting 19-22 April 2016

ERINHA coordinator, Dr Hervé Raoul, participated in the European Biosafety Association's (EBSA) 19th annual meeting in Lille 19-22 April 2016 and presented ERINHA.

France selected as host country for Central Coordination Unit 30th March 2016

Further to the Call for applications to host the Central Coordination Unit of the Infrastructure, the ERINHA2 Steering Committee evaluated and voted on the application received. The CCU will be hosted by France and located in Paris.


Call for Central Coordination Unit applications launched 14th January 2016

The ERINHA2 consortium launched a call among the ERINHA partner member states to obtain applications to host the Central Coordination Unit – the central office from which access to the ERINHA infrastructure will be administered. Deadline for applications: 15th February 2016. 


Launch of ERINHA2

The kick-off meeting of the ERINHA2 project was held in Paris on the 19th of January 2016. 


ERINHA Interim phase

The first ERINHA2 Steering Committee meeting was held in Paris on the 14th of December 2015 bringing together representatives from the ERINHA2 Members State countries. 


ERINHA to receive funding from the EC for preparatory phase

Under the coordination of Inserm, 16 ERINHA partners will receive funding to continue the preparatory phase to reach ERINHA’s objective of becoming an operational infrastructure in 2018.  The EC has granted €1.5 milion to the consortium to fund the project ERINHA2 under the Horizon 2020 programme. Throughout the interim phase, the ERINHA consortium continued to work together not only on scientific projects, namely in the fight against Ebola, but also on engaging with key national stakeholders to ensure continued support.


Steering Committee

A Steering Committee composed of key stakeholders and representatives of the ERINHA partner Member States has been set up. The Steering Committee will be instrumental in making key decisions with regard to the infrastructure during the remainder of the preparatory phase.


 Launch of ERINHA Interim phase

The ERINHA project ended on the 31st of August 2014. Letters or commitment were received from several partner continues to show their continued support for the future ERINHA infrastructure.
